Antique Narratives
This series attempts to change conversations around antiques as “dusty”, and “decaying” object by contextualizing them and their past lives. The photos and text emphasize the mystery of these objects, as some of their stories may be more lost or displaced than others. From the antique store Hunt and Gather in Minneapolis, MN, I conducted a number of interviews with the employees at the store, asking questions about where the objects were found, what they were, who owned them previously, even their personal reaction to the object itself. It was interesting to see the way in which each employee added their own personalities to the stories of the antiques, making the history of the object not only a story of the past, but the present as well. The photographs and text reveal the way that looking into the past stories of antiques is also a way of looking into the past stories of ourselves as humans.
